Purpose of this Blog

I’ll be using this blog to post various thoughts I have on the Software Development and the Software Industry in general. I’ll also be posting Code Snippits and other ideas I have in this realm that I feel are worth sharing.

About Me

I completed an Undergraduate Software Engineering Degree at McMaster University. During my education I took the Engineering side of my studies pretty seriously, and came to the conclusion that I want to be working on important things. The kind of project that cannot be allowed to fail. I want to work on the kind of project where there is a greater consequence to failure than the client losing 15 minutes of unsaved work and requiring them to restart a program. Not to go so far as wanting to work on a project where peoples lives depends on the successful operation of my projects, but I would be comfortable with that responsibility.

Despite my lofty career goals, I got distracted by a friend’s business proposal to start an online trade matching service for collectible based games. I saw this as an endeavour worth pursuing and have been working on making a viable business over the past year and a half. However, I am quickly approaching a public beta release. At which point my focus will switch from development to community building.

I see community building as one of those tasks where there effort spent is uncorrelated to the growth rate of the community. So I’m looking to get my career back on track, while I push the trading business to a weekend/evening gig.

Currently I’ve been working a lot with Ruby on Rails. I’ve written a couple of plugins and patched a few more. You can find all of my open source contributions at my github repository.
